WCC MENTORING
The Women’s Construction Coalition (WCC) is a 501(C) 3 charitable non-profit organization was formed to improve the acceptance of women in the construction industry and to improve the construction industry as a whole.
WCC has a strong focus on the mentoring of high school and college level students to become successful, self-confident young professionals and future leaders of the construction industry.
WCC has developed a one-stop, Mentoring Page that was created to help students, educators, counselors and parents understand and navigate through their career paths, offering:
Direct links to the high schools with related engineering, construction management and architecture classes.
Community and State College links.
Apprenticeship Training Programs
Salary Opportunities and career descriptions
Scholarship links available
The WCC Mentoring Committee has also partnered with several high schools in the San Diego area each month by inviting students to join the Julia Morgan Society Clubs. Both girls and boys may attend. Each month, a lunch meeting is held at the various high schools throughout San Diego County with interested students looking to gain knowledge and confidence to enter the construction industry. Guest industry speakers explain how they got started in their careers, their job description and how they meet with challenges. The Julia Morgan Society Clubs are over-seen by the Mentoring Committee and lead by WCC member volunteers who serve as club leaders. Other topics of discussion include scholarships, resume building, internships and summer jobs and visits to jobsites. Currently WCC has Julia Morgan Society Clubs at:
Santana High School
Patrick Henry High School
San Diego High School
Hoover High School
